CERTIFICATION GUIDE
SBA 8(a) Business Development Program
The 8(a) program is the most powerful federal contracting certification for Native-owned small businesses. It provides access to sole-source contracts, set-aside competitions, and business development support for a 9-year term. Tribally-owned enterprises have additional advantages.
What You Get
Tribally-Owned Enterprise Special Rules
- →Tribally-owned enterprises may participate in 8(a) without the usual revenue caps that apply to individually-owned firms
- →Tribally-owned 8(a) firms can receive sole-source awards above the normal thresholds
- →A Tribe may own multiple 8(a) firms without the affiliation rules that apply to individual owners
- →The 9-year term limitation does not apply the same way to tribally-owned 8(a) concerns
